John Chancellor, MD, MS

John Chancellor, MD, MS is a board-certified ophthalmologist and former Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. His clinical and surgical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous floater removal, epiretinal membrane surgery, and retinal detachment repair.
Prior to completing his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Chancellor finished his residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience and Behavior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Dr. Chancellor has significant experience with clinical trials for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes, and has been principal investigator on several gene therapy studies for inherited retinal dystrophies. His publications include book chapters and research articles in multiple journals including the New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Chancellor is one of the few eye surgeons in South Carolina licensed to administer FDA- approved gene therapy treatment for inherited retinal dystrophy. He is also member of the Board of Scientific Advisors to the Retina Research Foundation.
